The demands of local transportation have changed. Physical effort and arduous walkways are accepted no more.
Considerations such as comfort, flexibility, the environment and the interests of the elderly and handicapped, increasingly point towards smaller, more sophisticated systems.

What is more, especially the call processing development of hillside locations always sets a challenge to designers and providers. The Doppelmayr Group set up for this challenge to form a unique pool of know-how and competence. The result is Inclined Transport Technology: Small, automatic funiculars and inclined elevators, designed to solve the problems of passenger transport in local areas.

In 1997, the Group's work in this field finally fueled the foundation of ABS Transportbahnen Ges.m.b.H. with headquarters in Wolfurt, in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg.
